JZ FESTIVAL IN BEIJING 2013
IBRAHIM MAALOUF

IBRAHIM MAALOUF is a pioneering figure in the world of contemporary jazz thanks to his fusion of pop, soul, electro, hip-hop, and French chansons with the music of his Lebanese roots. He is the highest selling jazz act in France, selling more than 250,000 records in the last 2 years. Prior to his work in jazz music, an early prestigious classical career was sanctioned by several international awards (France, Hungary, Finland, USA), and the diploma of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. His music is strongly influenced by Arabic culture, he uses a 4-valve trumpet in order to play the “half sharps” and “half flats” required of Arabic modes of music called maqams. The musicians and instrumentation he will play with in Shanghai give his show a contemporary rock, electro and jazz funk flavor. Every concert he performs will have a contemplative and mystical musical interlude, which he calls a “collective universal prayer”.
