Fascinated by the variety of musical cultures around the world Micus has travelled in virtually every Asian and European country as well as in Africa and the Americas.
Studying with local master musicians he learned to play numerous traditional instruments, many of them unknown in the Western world. In many of his compositions he combines instruments that have never before been played together.
ECM records is releasing Stephan Micus’ 21st ECM album in 2015.
Wistful, sweet-sad melodies, warm, glowing chords, shadows become sound; strands of light are tuned and strummed…a truly original voice, suffused with a mysticism that is equal parts Western and Eastern.
