Mansfield.TYA is a French duo from Nantes composed of Julia Lanoë (guitar, vocals, piano) and Carla Pallone (violin, piano, harmonium, vocals). Their name comes from a reference to June Mansfield, Henry Miller’s wife, and the band’s first album is naturally called “June” (released in October 2005). Their music’s atmosphere is often dark, melancholic, sometimes raging, reminding of Cat Power, Shannon Wright or even Tom Waits. Too often categorized as “new French” music, Mansfield.TYA has influences that span large & wide. Whether in English or French, the duo has some powerful & elaborate lyrics, and explores unique melodic territories where other French bands do not usually wander.
A raw voice, a tortured violin, acoustic and electric guitars: this is Mansfield.Tya, a group composed of two women performing amazing shows. Both their albums (June, 2005; Seule au bout de 23 secondes, 2009) will take you into the intimacy of their very own universe… A revelation!
The group has already given about a hundred concerts and was noticed at the opening of Cat Power’s concert at the “Festival des Inrockuptibles” in November 2005.
They were seen at the openings of artists such as Erik Truffaz, Camille, Arthur H., Elysian Fields, Coco Rosie …
Their China tour is organised by the network of Alliances Françaises in China, with the support of the “Pays de la Loire” Region.
Their tour will take them through China in the autumn of 2010. Do not miss it under any circumstances!
